- 2 August 2026. EU AI Regulation: Labeling Requirement for AI Content Starts. From August 2, EU-wide AI labeling requirements take effect – at the same time, California also requires its own detection tool from large AI providers.
- 4 August 2026. Berlin Police Launches AI Surveillance at Kottbusser Tor. Starting in August, an AI camera at Kottbusser Tor analyzes movement patterns instead of faces – critics doubt its usefulness and data protection.
- 6 August 2026. The 10 Most Valuable AI Companies from Germany. Helsing, Celonis, Neura Robotics and co.: the ranking of the ten most valuable German AI companies – with documented valuations from funding rounds.
- 11 August 2026. Anthropic equips Claude responses with invisible watermark. Anthropic marks Claude-generated texts and image files in a machine-readable way to meet the EU transparency obligation worldwide.
- 12 August 2026. Spotify labels AI-generated artists starting in September. A new label marks profiles with a fictitious identity and automatically excludes them from recommendations and playlists.
- 13 August 2026. Mistral offers corporate clients guaranteed EU data processing. The French provider strictly separates data processing by region and secures fresh computing capacity for Europe with five major corporations.
- 15 August 2026. OpenAI informs users in the EU, EEA, and Switzerland via email about advertisements in the free ChatGPT starting at the end of August.
- 15 August 2026. An Anthropic engineer explains to TechCrunch for the first time how the wording watermark works – and where it reaches its limits.
- 18 August 2026. Google Gemini: Users can now turn off AI watermarks. Gemini now hides the visible AI logo on images, videos, and songs – business accounts in Google Workspace are exempt from this.
- 20 August 2026. Germany brings AI law for asylum procedures to Bundestag. The cabinet has decided on the use of AI in asylum and residence procedures. Pro Asyl and AlgorithmWatch warn of discrimination and lack of control.
- 22 August 2026. ChatGPT Ads Arrive in 31 European Countries on August 24. OpenAI confirms August 24 as the launch date for ChatGPT ads across 31 European countries, replacing its vague mid-August announcement.
- 27 August 2026. Wildberger lowers Germany's AI target to third place. At the cabinet meeting in Neuhardenberg, the Digital Minister names third or fourth place in the global AI race as a new interim goal for Germany.
- 1 September 2026. EU Commission classifies ChatGPT as a large search engine. From now on, stricter requirements for risk assessments, youth protection, and audits apply to the chatbot in the EU – like those for Google and Bing.
- 3 September 2026. BGH hears photographer lawsuit against AI dataset LAION. For the first time, Germany's top civil court examines whether AI datasets may use photos without the photographer's consent.
- 4 September 2026. Anthropic launches free checker tool for Claude watermarks. The new content checker reads C2PA metadata from files and shows whether Claude generated or edited them.
- 14 September 2026. Bitkom: 57 percent of German companies are now using AI. A representative Bitkom survey shows: The use of AI by German companies has nearly tripled since 2024, concerns about jobs and regulation remain high.
- 16 September 2026. Apple Intelligence launches in Germany: better dictation feature. iOS 27 brings Apple Intelligence to Germany: automatic text correction and more precise dictation, only Siri AI is missing for now.
- 17 September 2026. OpenAI lets hundreds of contractors review ChatGPT chats. An investigation by 404 Media shows how external reviewers read and evaluate real ChatGPT conversations – and who is exempt from this.
- 17 September 2026. ECB President Lagarde warns of capital outflow to US AI companies. Lagarde and Van der Bellen call for a capital markets union in Vienna to close Europe's AI investment gap of 600 billion euros.
- 17 September 2026. OpenAI's new ad format lets ChatGPT users chat directly with advertisers. Companies also get new ad tools for HubSpot and Shopify.
- 22 September 2026. ChatGPT: Advertising cookie tracks users for a year on other sites. An independent analysis shows: OpenAI's cookie "__obi" links ChatGPT accounts with activity on partner sites – declared as an analytics cookie.
- 22 September 2026. Bitkom: German companies increase AI spending by 48 percent. IDC figures commissioned by Bitkom: firms will spend around 28.7 billion euros on AI software, services, and hardware in 2026, nearly half more than in 2025.
- 28 September 2026. Bundestag and Bundesrat approve AI surveillance by the Federal Police. After a failed summer vote, the reformed Federal Police Act allows real-time facial recognition and AI movement analysis at train stations.
