Notion now connects its automatic meeting notes with a self-operating assistant. Once the AI has summarized a conversation, this so-called Custom Agent can update task lists, send a summary, or turn feedback into tickets. So far, a paid Notion Business plan is required, and the feature is still in a trial phase.
Notion lets meeting notes keep working on their own
Until now, the AI summary of a meeting in Notion ended right where it was created: as a finished text in a note. Anyone who wanted to update a tracker, notify colleagues, or hand out tasks afterward had to do it by hand.
That changes according to the Notion release notes from July 31, 2026: a Custom Agent can now be set up to start automatically as soon as the AI has summarized a meeting.
A Custom Agent is an assistant that gets configured without any coding, waits for an event, and then independently carries out a defined task. The new trigger, "Meeting note summarized," only fires once the finished summary exists, not the moment a meeting is scheduled.
According to Notion's help page on Custom Agents, the trigger can be narrowed to a single view or category of meetings, so not every minor note kicks off a run.
What this means for everyday office work
Here's an example from daily practice: after a one-hour project call, Notion's AI summary is usually ready within a few minutes. Until now, someone had to pull the open items out of it, update the task tracker, and write a short message to colleagues.
With the new trigger, the Custom Agent handles that on its own: it enters the agreed next steps straight into the right task list, sends a summary with decisions and next steps by email or Slack, and can even turn feedback from the call into finished tickets for a project team.
For office and admin staff, that mainly means one thing: meeting follow-up disappears as a separate item from their own to-do list. Similar automation already exists elsewhere: the Recap feature in Microsoft Teams summarizes meetings but doesn't distribute the results on its own.
Notion's new piece additionally takes over that last step.
Cost, requirements, and setup
According to Notion's pricing overview, the feature currently runs as a trial on the paid Business ($20 per user per month) and Enterprise plans; the free and cheaper Plus plan only get a limited trial.
Anyone using the Custom Agent beyond the trial pays extra through a credit system: $10 per 1,000 units consumed per month, depending on how demanding the task is. IT consultant Matthias Frank therefore advises keeping the trigger narrowly scoped to important meetings so credits aren't burned on trivial ones.
The meeting summary itself also works in German, as does the Notion interface.
The automation is set up in a few steps:
- Open the settings of the desired Custom Agent.
- Under "Trigger," add the option "Meeting note summarized."
- Choose a view or category that determines which meetings start a run.
- Set the desired follow-up task, such as updating the tracker or sending the summary.
- Save the agent; it will start on its own from the next matching meeting.
What matters most is whether companies want to risk this kind of automation at all: meeting notes often contain customer names, prices, or internal agreements that get processed through Notion's cloud the moment they're automatically forwarded to Slack, email, or a ticketing system.
Anyone running business meetings through it should check with IT or data protection beforehand on what content is cleared for this. It also remains open when Notion will turn the current trial into a regular, permanently priced feature.
