The AI cyberattack on Taiwan

From the first report of an autonomous AI attack in July to the official confirmation as a hybrid attack in August 2026.

In July 2026, security firm Dream uncovered one of the most automated AI-driven cyberattacks on a government to date: eight AI agents compromised government accounts in Taiwan and reached its nuclear safety authority and energy providers. In August, Taiwan’s government officially confirmed the incident, named the Justice Ministry as another target, and classified the attack as a hybrid approach in which humans only used AI agents as support.
