Ever since Anthropic refused to grant the Pentagon unrestricted access to Claude for any lawful purpose, a legal fight has raged over the company’s classification as a “supply chain risk.” A federal judge declared the classification unlawful in August 2026 – so far, that has not changed the practical exclusion.

When the Department of Defense expanded its GenAI.mil platform with ChatGPT Mil and Grok for Government in September 2026, Claude was once again left out. This strand tracks whether and when that changes.
